«Attempting to solve the issue of currency fluctuations by appealing to foreigners is pointless»

The «Sport Industry Management» RMA program conducted a master class by the general director of Professional Football Club (PFC) CSKA Roman Babaev. Among the topics touched upon during the class was the proposed freezing of currency exchange rates in which the players salaries are contractually denominated.

«Our team is currently assembled in Spain.  And I myself am going there tomorrow - particularly to address this issue at hand, and my hope is that our boys will be willing to step forward, because the hard times behoove us all to come together in an act of corporate solidarity to assure the common welfare. The very fact that we are involved in salary negotiations is nothing to be ashamed of, and therefore, we shouldn’t shy away from it, -- told Babaev.

I remember, back in 2008 there was a period of time when the value of the dollar had substantially decreased, and a number of players appealed to the management seeking some form of compensation for their losses, and the management had quite reasonably accepted their requests. Given the situation we all find ourselves in today, I genuinely hope that boys will be just as open minded and understanding.

Albeit, this concerns only the soccer players with the Russian passports. It appears to me as absolutely pointless to address the issue of currency fluctuations with the foreigners, because they don’t care one way or the other about the troubles with the Rouble: as they themselves largely live in Europe, and if Wernblom, who lives in Sweden, has been paying 5 euros for his apples before, today this price has not changed the least bit for him, and to offer him 3 euros instead of 5, even as a short term solution is simply not feasible. He will just not understand it», - summarized the general director of PFC CSKA.
