“Triumph in Vancouver wouldn’t be possible without disgrace in Calgary”

A lecture by the professor and the dean of faculty of business of Capilano University (Canada) Graham Fane was given at the State Management University. The senior developer of the Vancouver winter games volunteer program discussed the professional training methods of the Olympics' staff.

Having been invited by the Organizing Committee «Sochi 2014» the specialist used the opportunity to talk to the students of “Sport Industry Management” RMA program about the value of the c winter Olympics and it's impact on the development of sports activities in Canada.

A special attention was given to by professor Fane to the Canadian state run program (Sport Canada), which was introduced shortly before the Vancouver Olympics and the funding of which reached 120 million dollars. “At the end of the games, – said Prof. Fane, – some skeptics were insisting that our achievements during the games came with an excessive price tag attached, as according to estimates each Olympic medal had cost Canada nearly 5 million dollars”.

“Nevertheless, it is very important to understand, that the ultimate consequence of all these investments did not end with just winning the medals. The infrastructure, the development of sports popularization program, and the professional training technics mastered by our specialists, all that stayed in Canada and continues to serve the interests of it's people. In significant way, all these investments were aimed at our national future, and the development of it's sport ethos”, – concluded Canadian specialist.
